The Museum of Broken Relationships grew from a traveling exhibition revolving around the concept of failed relationships and their ruins. Unlike ‘destructive’ self-help instructions for recovery from failed loves, the Museum offers a chance to overcome an emotional collapse through creation: by contributing to the Museum’s collection.

This Identity Design created for MoBR  focuses on the amalgamation of the past and the present – what was and what is. While the hand-written type stands for what was – i.e. love, comfort, and familiarity, the geometric Gill Sans stands for what is – i.e. a beautiful piece of art confined to the four white walls of the Museum reminiscing on what was. The box created around the typography, although broken, creates a certain tension between the handwritten typography and the geometric Gill Sans and requires them to coexist in the same space.
